Introduction

My name is Kelly Hernandez and I am pursuing a second masters degree in Principal Leadership.  My undergraduate degree was in Early Childhood Education and my first masters degree was in Cross Categorical Special Education. I have been a special education teacher in my district for thirteen years. I work with K-3 students in a self-contained setting. My career plan is to finish my current masters degree and then take the required courses to enable me to become a Director of Special Education. 

I was inspired to be a special education teacher by my daughter. She was born with a chromosome abnormality resulting in multiple disabilities. My younger children also have disabilities and my work as a special education teacher has greatly prepared me for being an advocate for them. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family doing activities outdoors. We especially enjoy visiting my parents at their home in Indiana. Our family really enjoys animals and we have quite a few. We currently have a dog, kitten, hamster, fish, snails, and frogs. In the future we would like to get some geckos.
